The mission of Junior Achievement is to empower young people to own their economic success through financial literacy, workforce readiness and entrepreneurship education. Junior Achievement of Southwest New England (JASWNE) serves seven counties in Connecticut (excluding only Fairfield County). During the 2015-2016 school year, JA of Southwest New England served roughly 39,000 students in kindergarten through high school, thanks to the efforts of 2,500 business/community volunteers.

Position Title: JA Company Program Manager

Reports To: Senior Specialty & Digital Education Manager

Position Description:

This position is responsible for the expansion and implementation of Junior Achievement's signature high school program, the JA Company Program, in our territory in Connecticut. The JA Company Program guides high school students, via a digital platform, through the process of starting their own business - from creating the idea, to developing a business plan to raising capital and to ultimate liquidation. The JA Company Program Manager would be responsible for developing a strategic plan, in conjunction with the Director of Education, and all the related activities that would involve the significant expansion and implementation of the Program, such as student and volunteer recruitment and training, host (corporate) site management, and program operations and procedures. In addition to overseeing all in-school and after-school activities relating to the JA Company Program, the JA Company Program Manager would work collaboratively with JA Regional Education Managers to coordinate school and volunteer recruitment throughout our territory.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Student Recruitment: Create and implement plan to recruit high school students to participate in this in-school and after-school program. This would include visiting local high schools, community based organizations and student-focused organizations.
- School Engagement and Management: Identify, recruit and train high schools by working closely with local superintendents, principals and teachers. Deliver JA presentations to districts, schools, and prospective after-school teachers and programs as a recruitment strategy for students. Ensure development and implementation of a communication plan for teachers and schools, including class and teacher visits, newsletters and other types of outreach. Explore the potential development of a state-wide/regional JA Company Program Student Competition. Manage students' participation in the National Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C.
- Volunteer Engagement and Management: Secure volunteer commitments from a variety of sources including businesses and other types of organizations, colleges, parent groups, and returning volunteers. Responsible for contacting new and existing business accounts to secure program volunteers. Work with companies and volunteers directly to secure program site placement, and deliver appropriate orientation and training. Coordinate and implement annual volunteer marketing efforts for territory. Process includes sales calls, presentations, meetings, and email and phone follow-ups with individual volunteers. Work closely with Senior Volunteer Engagement Manager to grow and retain volunteer base and to ensure outstanding volunteer experience while developing metrics to measure such results.
- Program Management: Responsible for contacting new and existing schools. Work with schools and educators directly for program placement and appropriate orientation. Renew commitments of schools and educators currently utilizing the programs. Market and secure programming at non-participating schools. Perform administrative setup of program and ongoing review of identified reports in the online system. Enter and maintain accurate volunteer and class information in the online system. Develop and manage the annual Educators Open House as a way of growing the JA Company Program
- Program Quality: Ensure quality programming through phone calls, classroom monitoring, and evaluation instruments, including the use of the learning management system relative to the Company Program. Continually provide feedback, materials, and other resources to educators and volunteers.
- Financial Management: Assist in budget development for Company Program and related activities, e.g. grant requests/requirements, coordinator orientation, recognition events, student workshops, competitions, etc. Assist in securing funding through volunteer contacts and community business contacts.
- Public Relations: Help increase public awareness in the education community through presentations, newsletters, and website content working in conjunction with Marketing and Communication Department

Other duties as assigned to support program team and other departments as needed.



Bachelor's degree. Proven oral and written communication skills. Experience in program implementation. Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Demonstrated organizational and planning skills. Highly motivated and self-directed individual. Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to interact with a wide variety of people.


Knowledge of local business and education communities. Previous sales experience preferred. Skilled in business software applications and online tools. Comfortable with technology from laptop to mobile to smartboards.
