Date Posted: 2017-04-28
Location: New York, NY
GadgetHacks.com (a part of WonderHowTo.com) is looking for a writer addicted to iPhones -- who has in-depth technical knowledge about iPhones, iOS, and other Apple products -- to cover a wide variety of topics ranging from simple tips and tricks, to uncovering bugs that affect security or "add" features, to jailbreak and non-jailbreak mods, to digging through betas and developer versions of software for new exciting elements.

Daily Tasks:

* Keep your finger on the pulse of the iOS community -- know what users want.
* Pitch your own story ideas. Find angles that other sites aren't covering.
> Some example areas of interest include:
>>> iOS bugs that threaten privacy/security or (unintentionally) increase device functionality.
>>> New features in iOS found in dev and public betas.
>>> Common user problems/troubleshooting.
>>> Apps in the iOS App Store that solve big issues for users.
>>> App roundups for different types of iPhone users.
>>> Jailbreaking tutorials.
>>> Jailbreak apps that add functionality to iOS.
>>> Installing apps with Cydia Impactor.
>>> Sideloading game emulators.
>>> How-tos and need-to-know info on hot news.
* Turn approved pitches into fully fleshed out articles clean of grammar, formatting, and factual issues.
* Analyze and compare hardware and software features on various iPhone and Android models.

* Technical expertise regarding iPhone hardware.
* In-depth knowledge on all of Apple's iOS and iPhone features.
> How they work and how to use them:
>>> Music, iTunes, AirPlay, Control Center, Widgets, Touch ID, 3D Touch, Wallet, Apple Pay, Guided Access, Accessibility shortcuts and Settings, VPN setup, Notifications, Location settings, Maps, iCloud, Restrictions, Profiles, Handoff, Zoom, VoiceOver, AssistiveTouch, Lock Screen, and the list goes on.
* Experience with jailbreak methods, Cydia, repos, jailbreak apps, non-jailbreak mods, Cydia Impactor, Xcode, sideloading, etc.
* Proficiency as a writer.
> Knows how to introduce a topic to grab attention, then follows through smoothly in an easy-to-digest manner.
> Can self-edit for grammar/formatting.
* Excitement for what Apple does next in the smartphone market.
* An obsession with iPhones.
* And, of course, an iPhone or two (or three or four!).

Bonus Points:

* Industry experience that directly relates to iOS and iPhone hardware.
* Background in engineering or programming.
* Knowledge of Android OS and newer Android phones.
* Experience with connectivity protocols such as Bluetooth and LTE.
* Knowledge about the chipsets that power modern phones.
* Experience as an Android or iOS developer.
* Can take good photographs and screenshots.
* Experience with Slack, Wunderlist, Photoshop.

* Flexible schedule with 40/hours of work available every week.
* While we'd prefer applicants to be near our home base in Manhattan, working remotely is also an option.
* If you're in NYC, you'll have access to every major phone on the market at our home office.
