Contract Technical Writer, software developer doc; $50/hr W2, flex-time, 100% remote (CRT-612)

Summary: Busy Silicon Valley software technical writing consultant needs to offload parts of multiple clients' projects. You'll be briefed on the context, tools, audience, scope, and priorities, supplied with recordings of SME meetings, and work to a tight schedule. Apply your computer science/software programming experience, demonstrably excellent developer doc writing skills, and willingness to put business first, then deliver quality work when promised. You'll be taught the rest. This is a rare chance to be mentored, do great dev-doc work, and work 100 percent offsite.

Job title: Contract Technical Writer, software developer doc; $50/hr W2, flex-time, 100% remote (CRT-612)
Job code: CRT-612

Compensation: $50/hr on a W2 basis, with available medical, dental, and vision insurance benefits, uniquely lucrative 401(k) plan, and expense reimbursements

Location: Home office, entirely offsite, telecommute, work from home/WFH, remote. Flex time. Must be reachable during Silicon Valley business hours (US Pacific time).

Audience: Software developers for a variety of complex products

Tasks: As directed, contribute to original developer-oriented software documentation such as API references, quick-starts, and tutorials. Apprentice to lead technical writing consultant who values character, integrity, and trustworthiness as much as quality work, reliability, and productivity. This role requires less initiative and more adherence/obedience than most senior roles; if you can't or won't follow directions, please don't apply.

Tools: Vary by client. Usually open-source tools like Markdown and Git. Should own recent model Mac (as opposed to Windows PC).

Soft Skills: Positive, energetic, can-do attitude and achievement orientation. Being self-motivated and able to think on your feet are essential, as is willingness to jump in and deliver full-coverage solutions (rather than just the "tech writing" part).

Team: You'd be this consultant's unofficial understudy on multiple fast-paced client documentation projects. Note: you won't be able to claim credit for working on said clients' projects.

Starts: ASAP

Duration: Up to 40 hrs/week, indefinite

Relo/Visa help: No. Must have a US social security number or corporate tax ID number. Please don't apply unless you can supply one of these on request.
