Established in 2016, EdgePetrol offers a data driven web app to petrol stations, allowing petrol retailers to optimize their business operations to maximize returns. Aiming for a UK launch in September 2017, EdgePetrol has secured funding, started development and has lined up pilot clients.

There are 8,000 petrol stations in the UK, and over 120,000 in continental Europe. Our intelligent software solution delivers real-time data, analytics and insight to petrol retailers - bringing increased efficiency to fuel purchasing, pricing and operations.

We are an early stage start-up, but have the backing of an influential board and a strong founding team from upstream oil trading and retail operations and integrations. Based in London and Cardiff, we are a team of 10 with an ambitious and exciting strategy and a huge potential for growth. The Role

We are currently building early versions of our app using outsourced product and development resources, but are looking to build a team of full time home-based engineers to execute all future development within the business. As such we are seeking a home-based front-end engineer based in the South West of England or South Wales.

To qualify for this role, you must be self-motivated, resourceful, and disciplined with your time, staying aware of important deadlines and milestones. But this is a chance to ditch the commute:

- Attending our office in Cardiff regularly during an initial one month on-boarding period
- Thereafter work home-based collaborating with other remote team members using Slack, Jira, Trello, and of course, email and phone
- Regular face to face meetings will strengthen team cohesion, whether bi-weekly sprint review and planning, or weekly sessions in a Cardiff or Bristol location

You will work closely with the CTO, Product Owner, and other home-based engineering team members to drive the development of EdgePetrol's product:

- Building V1 of the Edge application - discovery, specification, build and release in rapid cycles
- Integrating to get the data no one else has - even where APIs might not be available
- Creating a web app dashboard to enable users to view business portfolio performance but drill into station level detail, surfacing the information our customers need
- Creating infrastructure to support phone and tablet apps to support our customers on the road
- Collecting all the data to discover opportunities for business optimisation

Job Specifications

Working as part of a home-based engineering team reporting to our CTO, delivering product in collaboration with our Product Manager and the rest of the engineering team

- Initially to work with the outsourced team to effect a handover such that development continues in-house with minimum of disruption
- Working a sprint-based Agile methodology - two-week sprints against a prioritised backlog, QA and deployment within sprint
- Attending sprint planning sprint review and retrospectives - working with Product Manager to break stories down and plan sprint content
- Collaborate with the CTO and within your team to ensure we are building production-ready, available, resilient and secure systems
- Work within methodology to develop code and other artefacts which are easy to maintain, troubleshoot and enhance
- Own feature stories through the whole cycle, ensuring their quality and success
- Mentor other developers on skills you are strong with. Learn new technologies and techniques where you are not
- Assist with troubleshooting and problem resolution as needed in support of the continued success of the product
- Keeping stakeholders, internally and externally, updated with progress


What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a front-end engineer with circa three years' experience:

- Recent experience with our current technical and platform stack
- Experience with Sprint-based Agile methodology, TDD, CI and CD
- B2B web applications, data visualisation
- Building mobile and tablet-friendly web apps
- Must love the start-up environment - light on process, results oriented, green field build of new product, own your work, small teams demanding flexibility
- Must be ready and capable of working from home - self-sufficient, with the initiative and energy to create and maintain relationships and power collaboration remotely
- Ability to be open and honest about delivery - you must own your estimates, and be open about blockages and problems
- A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Maths, or any related field is an asset
