Appsembler is looking for an Open edX engineer to help us build a platform empowering companies, universities, and nonprofits to deliver corporate training, professional development, and continuing education. As a member of the engineering team, you'll configure and deploy Open edX-based learning systems, work with your colleagues on customer launches and upgrades, and build new features that meet the needs of our customers. On a daily basis, you'll work closely with your engineering teammates and members of the Customer Success team. If you love improving systems, this is the team for you!

In this job you will:

- Work on a project team--that includes engineers and Customer success folks--to configure, customize, test, deploy Open-edX-based learning platforms. We communicate thoroughly to minimize surprise and we don't "throw things over the wall".
- Maintain and support customer deployments, including upgrading live production systems
- Work with your engineering colleagues to build out new features and infrastructure in a reliable, repeatable, well-tested manner -- through code reviews, system monitoring, repeatable deployments
- Work with the front-line support members of the Customer Success team to fix bugs
- Deploy new features built by our product team, which meet the needs of multiple customers
- Contribute back to the Open edX community
- Teach your teammates and the community what you've learned through lunch & learns, blog posts, and talks

Requirements

What makes you a great fit for this role:

- Ideally, you have experience working with Open edX in a production environment: configuring, deploying, maintaining, extending, testing
- Bonus points for persistence if you've set up Open edX Insights before
- You have solid Django and Python experience
- You understand that testing is the lifeblood of a small team
- You're conversant in devops. You might not be an Ansible master, but you know your way around it, and can use and extend the tools our devops engineers have built
- You've worked on customer-facing projects as a member of a professional services team and are comfortable talking with customers
- You can commit to--and hit--realistic deadlines
- You're tenacious and thorough in finding and fixing bugs
- You have a strong command of English. It doesn't have to be your first language, but it's what we speak internally and with our customers (at least for now!)
