Fastly helps the world's most popular digital businesses keep pace with their customer expectations by delivering fast, secure, and scalable online experiences. Businesses trust Fastly to accelerate the pace of technical innovation, mitigate evolving threats, and scale on demand. Founded in 2011, Fastly powers online destinations including Airbnb, GitHub, Alaska Airlines, Pinterest, Vimeo, The Guardian, The New York Times and Ticketmaster.

The worldwide cloud services market is projected to grow rapidly to $236 billion in 2020, according to Forrester, Inc. As more and more businesses move operations to the cloud, Fastly is well positioned to continue increasing CDN, cloud networking and cloud security market share with edge cloud services that reach beyond content delivery.

We're building a better Internet. Come join us.

Fastly is looking for engineers to create the software responsible for configuring, controlling and coordinating our global network. While we operate within the same constraints imposed by network hardware as our competitors, Fastly distinguishes itself by being a software company first and foremost, and we pride ourselves in having always taken a systems perspective to computer networking.

Whether you work on pushing packet performance at the data plane, defining APIs for interacting with network processes at the control plane, or applying decomposition methods to global traffic management is largely immaterial: if you have built a solid understanding of a problem space and are now ready to drive clean slate solutions, you should talk to us.

Most of our systems are written in C, Python or Go, and you must be proficient in at least one of these. You must demonstrate working knowledge of the entire networking stack, including HTTP, TCP, IP, BGP and DNS. Furthermore, you can claim more than one of the following:

- you enjoy functional programming but are no longer a zealot
- you have endured the pain of configuring network devices and wonder where it all went wrong
- you know the inherent design limitations of IPv4, and don't want to repeat the same mistakes in IPv6
- you have experienced the benefits and pitfalls of microservices, RPC and brokerless message queues
- you have worked on the transport layer, and suspect the reports of its death have been greatly exaggerated
- you would rather change how the Internet works than write another academic paper on the topic
- you realize most of shortcomings of BGP do not stem from having been designed on a napkin
- you built an API you were unable to improve on because it proved to be too useful
- you have opinions on SDN, NFV, and whatever other acronyms telcos are using to describe a shell script these days
- you have tried to design a continuous dynamical system for routing, and got it wrong at least twice
