Linaro is seeking an experienced engineer to work on profiling and optimization of the GNU toolchain and Linux based applications and runtimes for the ARM architecture. The ideal candidate will have experience developing the GNU toolchain (gcc, glibc, binutils, libstdc++, etc), profiling workloads to identify targets for optimization and then develop code to achieve those targets. A deep understanding of compilers and computer architecture is a necessary prerequisite for this position.

The team is distributed geographically so you need to be self organized, communicative, flexible and willing to adapt to the processes in place in order to meet the project's goals and attend the team's meetings.
Key Responsibilities:

- GNU toolchain development, runtime libraries development
- Profiling optimization target workloads and identifying areas of performance improvement
- Collaborate with other teams in Linaro, upstream developers and member engineers

Required Skills and Experience:

- Configuring, building, and debugging the GNU toolchain and runtime libraries
- Profiling and performance analysis
- Knowledge of FOSS engineering principles and project life-cycle
- Experience submitting code upstream to the FSF
- Understanding of ARM ELF ABIs
- C and assembly language programming
- Proficiency in problem solving and debugging
- Good English communication skills, both oral and written.

Desired Skills and Experience:

- ARM instruction set desired but not required
- Configuring, building and debugging other Open Source toolchains and runtime libraries
- Software optimization experience
- Experience with the C++ language frontend and standard


- This position requires the attendance at all Linaro Connect events
- May also require travel to member sites from time to time
