Say a prayer for Haiti.

Friends, IĀ  usually try my best to stick to topics relating to telecommuting and the entire work from home lifestyle, including running a business online, but how can we ignore what’s happening in Haiti? And the cost to human life and existence. As if things were not already bad for this tiny nation in our hemisphere, they must now deal with the devastation of that massive earthquake that hit a few days ago. One can only imagine the destruction, suffering and loss of life from the few images we’re now …

Let’s take a closer look at some of your work at home questions.

Ever since Jen took over the management of Genuinejobs.com I’ve distanced myself a bit from the daily activity of the site, including reading and responding to support emails. Though the idea was to free-up my time when I passed these responsibilities to Jen, I’ve become disconnected with our site users. It’s like no longer knowing who your customers are and that can never be good for business. Now don’t get me wrong, Jen is doing an amazingĀ  job but in reality one can never really be completely disconnected from a …

The calm after the storm.

I’m a bit late with this, but it’s been such a hectic couple weeks leading up to the holiday season that I barely had time to think. With the “search” issues we’ve been working on as well as maintaining my other blogs and websites, plus having to shop (where do you find the $$ in a recession?) for our girls we’ve been busy to the point where we need a vacation now. It’s minus 10 Celsius (14 degree Fahrenheit) outside with flurries.. a should be enjoying some beverages on a …

In The Event You Encounter Errors.

It’s been a hectic day as I try to get things back to normal with the website. It’s been brought to our attention that there are some errors (I’ll explain below) that’s been popping up throughout the website. This all started after I hired an SEO “expert” to help with getting the website better organized for the search engines. Seems he/they uploaded the pages they edited, rather than just edit the pages online. When a page is uploaded it overwrites the current page and there’s always the risk that information …

Dust yourself off and get back into the game.

It’s been a VERY rough 7 days for me and it’s taking everything out of me to get back into action. Remember when you first learned to ride a bike? Except for our middle daughter who just jumped on and started riding, I’m sure you fell. However if you’re anything like me, I’m positive you got right back on and didn’t give up until you conquered that 2 wheel nemesis. Funny how life can be the very same way.
Every Christmas I usually build a toy store after trying to predict …

“Hands Free” is now law for Ontario Commuters.

The talk here in Ontario the past couple weeks is the new law that will take effect in a few days which will prohibit drivers from using any sort of portable device while driving unless it”s “hands free”. We’re a little late coming out with this law as I know it’s already in effect in some States in the US. I don’t personally own a cell phone, nor do I commute to work. However we do have a shared (you wouldn’t know it) phone that Caron and I take with …

6 mistakes people make when they start a new job.

Here’s another great article I came across this morning that I thought would fit well with the theme of this blog. Be sure to check out the entire article and do come back and leave your comments.
Mistake #1: Assume you know what is expected of you
One of the biggest complaints we heard from new leaders was a lack of clarity around the role and their boss’ expectations. A key reason for this is that there simply isn’t enough candid conversation, before or after the move. Would you take a job …
