How to get results when speaking to customer support on the phone.

Yesterday I spent over an hour on the phone with the support team at the cell phone company where we have our current cell phone plan. Basically I went through the past couple bills and realized there were some errors in billing and discounts which were promised to us were not processed. Here are some tips to help you get what you want the next time you have to deal with any sort of customer support on the phone.
Before you make the call be clear about what result you want …

Is it wrong to want to take a break and just sit on the couch or go back to bed, even though you have a ton of work to do? Personally I like to get my work completed and I don’t ever recall just wasting away my day in front of the the tv as far as I can remember. In previous posts I’ve mentioned that not only am I up at about 6 am every morning, I go straight to work after cleaning myself up and taking our girls …

How to assign and install a Favicon to your website.

I’ll start by explaining what a Favicon is and why it’s helpful when trying to “brand” your blog or website. Go over to my Caribbean Cooking Blog, now bookmark the site (add to favourites) then take a look at your bookmarks and you should see a red pepper next to the bookmark you just created. Additionally, while at the site take a look at the top left side of the page (I’m using a FireFox browser). You’ll see the same red pepper in front of the URL in the destination …

No snow in Canada for winter Olympics?

Imagine my surprise when I heard that on the radio this morning as I drove Indy and Tehya to school. WHAT!! No snow in Canada.. aren’t we known for being the coldest, so much snow that we travel by dog sleds, live in igloos..etc?  It’s been a relatively mild winter for us (knock on wood) and I’m enjoying every minute. However the organizers of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics are having a tough time dealing with the lack of natural snow. It’s being reported that not only do we not …

The calm after the storm.

I’m a bit late with this, but it’s been such a hectic couple weeks leading up to the holiday season that I barely had time to think. With the “search” issues we’ve been working on as well as maintaining my other blogs and websites, plus having to shop (where do you find the $$ in a recession?) for our girls we’ve been busy to the point where we need a vacation now. It’s minus 10 Celsius (14 degree Fahrenheit) outside with flurries.. a should be enjoying some beverages on a …

Looking to partner for a cool project.

For the past couple weeks I’ve been researching the concepts behind apps for iPhone and other smart phones… this after reading an article where it mentioned that people are making BIG money with apps. I mean, they have to be worthwhile apps, but the income potential is incredible. Here’s what it comes down to…

I have an idea for an iPhone (or any smart phone – Blackberry?) apps that I’d like to have created. But since I’m not a programmer nor do I have any interest in learning the required skill …

How to network when your work from home, online.

One of the toughest things when you work from home or do business online, is doing this alone. Unlike office situations where you have interactions with other workers, schedule meetings and camaraderie after work, you’re pretty much alone when you work out of your home. Maybe this is why one of the fastest growing websites is Meetup.com. Basically it’s a site that allows you to meet with people in your area who share similar interests.
Over the years I’ve been reading the blog of John Chow and one of the things …

Are you scared of the piggy flu yet?

The talk of the town these days is the H1N1 flu and getting the H1N1 vaccine. They started distributing the vaccine here in Hamilton about 3 days ago and it’s being reported that though the Toronto area was supposed to start on Thursday, they started early. I caught a video clip on the news around lunch time and the lines were massive for people waiting to get the vaccine. In some places there were 400 people in line in the cold and rainy conditions. At this point they were saying …

Going from the pool to the hot tub.

I’d like to take a moment to apologize for such a long delay in posting. If you’re following me on Twitter you’d know that we were away on (working) vacation / wedding  for my youngest sister. Though I did make time for some work  it did not include time for blogging… that time was spent cooling off by the pool or one of the many beaches we visited. I can officially say that I HATE cold weather. The morning of our flight I had to take one final dip in …

How do you prepare for “working” while on the road?

Within the next few days I’ll have to get myself organized to travel for a couple weeks. This means preparing myself for work while traveling, since I plan on taking full advantage of this work from home gig. I work from home, so there’s no reason why I can’t work from someone elses home. After-all we’ll be staying at my sister’s place and not only does she have 100% uptime wireless connection (faster speed than what I work with currently), her fiance said it was ok to work on his …
