Are You A Work At Home Workaholic?

Are you addicted to working and though you work at home, you find that you never have time for anything… including your family? Psychologists from Norway’s University of Bergen and from Nottingham Trent University came up with this test and scoring system to determine how you rank as far as being a workaholic.  Here’s the workaholic test, see how you rank:

Look at each of the following statements and rank yourself on each one according to the following:
1 = Never; 2 = Rarely; 3 = Sometimes; 4 = Often and 5 …

Work From Home To Save Money And Ease Congestion.

It’s about time the concept of working from home is a more readily available option for today’s work force. I read this morning that on the island of Bermuda the government is considering having a portion of their employees work from home in an effort to save money and ease congestion in the capital city, where most civil servants tend to work. The work from home idea is being welcomed by environmentalists and even the union representative for the workers see this as a step forward.
Government Estates and Information Services …

Does Working From Home Really Save Money?

How can working from home save me money? This was the first response I got when I first approached my employer at the time (going back 15 years ago), at the concept of me telecommuting from home a few days of the week. I had done my homework, so I was prepared to awe him with my responses. And I did. Not only was I working from home 3 days of the week, after 2 months I was a full time telecommuter and within 6 months I was a contract …

What’s the real cost of not allowing your workers to telecommute?

I’m always in the hunt for news relating to our industry. It’s the only way for me to really keep up with trends and developments, since telecommuting or working from home can be very lonely and when you’re not surrounded (no chats by the water cooler) by people in the industry you tend to loose touch with it. This is one of the main reasons why I have my “google alerts” set to fetch relating news about the telecommuting industry.
Don’t get me wrong, there are hundreds of forums and groups …

Why it’s important to set rules for your employees who telecommute.

If you’re an employer who’s considering allowing your employees to work on a flex time schedule where part of their work week is spent working form home, there are rules you must have in place from the onset. I’ve been working from home for the past 11 years, but looking back I realize that my first telecommute job didn’t come with any rules. I could have done what I want, when I want.. even with the company’s equipment. Maybe it’s because of the relationship I had with that employer, where …

How To Outsmart The Work At Home Scammers.

I’m sure we’ve all seen the ads: “Earn $1000′s weekly stuffing envelopes from home!” Have you ever been tempted to send in your money for that one? I have. Luckily I didn’t do it, but I know many people have. It sounds so great, doesn’t it? Sit at home watching television while stuffing hundreds of envelopes, and get a nice check every week. If only such a job existed! Don’t fool yourself, it doesn’t. Why? Companies can easily purchase a machine that will not only stuff the envelopes for them, …

I’ve been mesmerize into the darkside.

With all the talk these days about Blackberry, iPhone, smartpohne, texting, apps etc I’ve been getting the feeling that I’m being left behind. I’ve been making a living for the past 10 years with computers online and I didn’t even own a cell phone. After-all I work from home so if anyone ever wanted to get hold of me they could either email or phone me on my land line. Whenever we were out, either Caron or one of our girls would have their cell phone with them, in the …

Going from the pool to the hot tub.

I’d like to take a moment to apologize for such a long delay in posting. If you’re following me on Twitter you’d know that we were away on (working) vacation / wedding  for my youngest sister. Though I did make time for some work  it did not include time for blogging… that time was spent cooling off by the pool or one of the many beaches we visited. I can officially say that I HATE cold weather. The morning of our flight I had to take one final dip in …

Is Working At Home Right For You?

If you’ve just begun your search for a work at home job, you probably have a beautiful concept of what working from home is like. You probably imagine yourself waking up whenever you want, sliding your feet into fuzzy slippers and shuffling to the kitchen to get some coffee, then shuffling along to your office to put in another wonderful day at work, then later going to the mailbox to pick up your weekly paycheck of several thousand dollars. I hate to burst your bubble, but it doesn’t work that …
